Click to expand.I don't normally, but here I disagree. I think SFTWC is a better collection of songs. I do enjoy The Captain and The Kid but there are moments in it when you hear the start of the decline: slightly scratchy voice, struggling to enunciate and fit the lyrics into the music. I don't hear that on SFTWC. I think some of the melodies and chord sequences on TCATK sound forced as well, as they do on The Divind Board. Rare for Elton albums) the high points of SFTWC are much higher than the best stuff on TC&TK in my 'umble opinion you're spot on re:the voice, it was already getting a bit ragged by then. Though I don't find anything as jarringily rough as vocally on TDB..and as for recycled melodies, I can forgive them on TC&TK as that was part of the concept (every track borrows bits from others. The Bridge = Your Song, House Fell Down = I'm Still Standing, Blues Never Fade Away = Empty Garden, TC&TK = CFATBDC).

If the guys behind the TBC box set had overseen the 95 remasters (sorry Gus, God rest ya) we wouldn't be scrabbling round for DJM's now (imho!). Just about everything on TBC sounds definitive for CD (again just my p.o.v.). The train logo Jump Up!
Is rarer than some of the other Phonogram EJ CDs with the Rocket train (contents the same as the blank silver disc though just like the others). SACDs with CD layer are called Hybrids. Not all SACDs are hybrids (e.g.
The SHM-SACDs) so they only play in SACD players in Hi-Res Stereo. Sid And Nancy Ost Raritan more. Some SACDs have Surround, some don't.
The Elton SACDs (the Hybrid, non SHM ones, of which there were SACDs for EJ, Tumbleweed, Madman, Honky, CFATBDC, GYBR, Peachtree) are particularly good in Surround and not much cop in Stereo.
