Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight 20 Gauge Serial Numbers
Anyone familiar with Ithaca's Model 37 pump action shotgun? I picked up a very gently used one this week, in 20 gauge, with a 28' barrel, and a high visibility (like in a 'hunter's red') plastic front sight.

It has no choke, and is not even threaded for one. Were shotguns from this era 'fixed choke'? Did they come from the factory 'improved cylinder' or something like that? The receiver portion has some very nice engraving, and I am thinking it would look even nicer if I could highlight the design inlay (a hunting scene) in gold; any advice on whether to do this, and if so, how to proceed? I'm going to run through a thorough cleaning of the entire gun and oil the wood stock. Any other TLC I should do? Anything I should not do?
